PREVENTION

Indicators of Relationship Abuse

BE AN ACTIVE BYSTANDER

The signs of relationship violence are not always apparent, the bystander is sometimes the one to notice something is not right with the relationship. Signs of power and control can lead to the escalation of violence. This is a sign of an unhealthy relationship. If you notice that something does not feel right, chances are you are correct.

If you feel your friend is getting involved in a controlling relationship or is in danger, stay with a friend or get assistance from a counselor or someone you trust. Being an active bystander and staying with a friend are two actions that can contribute in preventing relationship abuse.
